Combining parts in an assembly

Combining parts in an assembly

Combining parts in an assembly

(OP)
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to combine parts within an assembly.  It seems to me that the only way to make one part out of two is within a part, not within an assembly.  I figured there has to be a way to make all of the assembly parts one part for FEA etc.  The combine command only appears when i'm editing an individual part, outside of the assembly.

Thanks,
Jesse

RE: Combining parts in an assembly

"Save as" -> Part

open part -> combine (bodies)

should do the trick (be sure to save the bodies)

RE: Combining parts in an assembly

It's been a while since I've done this, but I believe you edit one part and use the Join feature in the context of the assembly.  Check Join in help and see if that's correct.

RE: Combining parts in an assembly

Insert>New part

Give the part file a name, while in edit part in context in the assembly go to Insert>Features>Join

Pick the Parts in the assembly that you want in the new part file, once you hit ok it will automatically boolean them together (as long as the parts picked are touching or intersecting)

RE: Combining parts in an assembly

Will this new solid update as the individual component parts update?

RE: Combining parts in an assembly

You can also CNTRL or SHIFT-Select components in the Assy and "Form New Sub-assembly Here".  These components will update with component part changes.  I am unsure when you use the Join command (I don't use it enough).

RE: Combining parts in an assembly

I think he wants to run COSMOSXpress on an assembly. That's why I suggested the 'save as part' method, to get one single body.
