placing datums

placing datums

(OP)
I need to have a datum that is normal to a plane and passes through the axis of large hole and then through the center of a small hole.

How is that done in wildfire?

Thanks in advance,
SrG

RE: placing datums

Select the plane, hold control, select the axis, and start the plane tool.

Change the reference type to Parallel in the Datum Plane dialog box.

RE: placing datums

I successfully created 1 datum.  It has only one constraint (constrained to a plane in the part).  Then I attempt to create another plane.  I get the plane creation dialog box up and I'm able to select an axis (or other things), but I'm not able to get the plane to have multiple constraints.  I get a message that says: Select up to 3 references, such as plane, surface, edge or point to place plane.

So I can select an axis.  But then if I select another hole (in an attempt to get it to pass through the hole) the datum moves and passes through the hole, but it no long passes through my first selection (the axis).  How do I get it to retain multiple constraints?

Thanks,
SrG

RE: placing datums

Hold down Control (like selecting icons)

Thanks,
I had tried that and it didn't work.  It works now.  I must have done something wrong.

It's working now,
Thanks,
g
