uninstall problem
uninstall problem
(OP)
First, a bit of history:
When I upgraded SW2005 from SP2.0 to SP5.0, I got some weird messages during the install that some network files related to our shared Toolbox directory were not found. The network path referenced in these error messages was invalid due to some changes in our network, so I decided to let the install proceed to see what happened. I got a message saying "fatal error durng install" but SP5.0 did install. However, I ended up with 2 entries in my menus - 1 for SW2005 SP2.0 and another for SW2005 SP5.0. Trying either of these entries started SP5.0. Weird.
Now I need to uninstall SW2005 altogether. I uninstalled SP5.0, which left me with SP2.0 - still weird, but not entirely unexpected. I try to uninstall SP2.0, and I get the same message about the networked toolbox files not being found, and the "fatal error during install". At this point the uninstall terminates and leaves me with SP2.0 installed.
How can I get rid of SW2005 completely? Delete the SW2005 folder and corresponding registry entries?
Thanks for any help,
Dave Gowans

RE: uninstall problem
I would probably reinstall, then uninstall using the SW05 CD's.

RE: uninstall problem
The SP information in Help/About loosed consistency with SP installation, resulting in something like you are describing.
The SP installation/uninstalation was impossible, and uninstalling and reinstalling SW, with the "classical" registry cleaning, didn't solve the problem.
I solved the problem with a deep registry cleaning. I've searched every SW keyword and deleted it. It was a very risky thing to do, but, at that time, there was no other option. In the end it turn out to be successful: the computer booted with no problems and I was able to perform a fresh SW install and SP's upgrades. No more problems since.
I do not recommend any one playing with the registry. It's dangerous and can prevent your system to boot. If it was now, I would try to solve the problem with a registry cleaner, before doing a manual deep cleaning. But when options are an OS reinstall...
Good Luck
RE: uninstall problem
Do you mean reinstall SP5.0 and then try to rollback the installation? I just reinstalled SP5.0 and got the same errors. Once again, I have 2 entries in the menu - 1 for SP2.0 and 1 for SP5.0. I've never done an un-install using the SW CDs - how does that work?

RE: uninstall problem
See Scotts FAQ559-488.
If Item 1 will not uninstall properly, then skip it & continue with Item 2.
If you have a registry cleaner, you can also use it, but should not need to.

RE: uninstall problem
That was pretty much what I was getting at with my original post - can I delete the SW2005 directory and clean the registry and start fresh from there? From the sounds of it, this is what I need to do. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't completely hose my system in the process of trying to get 2005 uninstalled/reinstalled.
Thanks,

RE: uninstall problem
You probably already have, or don't need to ('cos you saved them in the right place), but just in case ... remember to backup any customizing you may have done to the SW install directory files. (BOMs, Tables, Library features, etc)

RE: uninstall problem
I had this problem back with 2004.
I reinstalled, then uninstalled. Then removed the registry. Then reinstalled clean.
