ASTM D6465 Adhesive Selection

ASTM D6465 Adhesive Selection

ASTM D6465 Adhesive Selection

(OP)
Does anyone out there have any experience using ASTM D6465  Standard Guide for Selecting Aerospace and General Purpose Adhesives and Sealants, either using the methods to actually select an adhesive or sealant, or reviewing information submitted by vendors/contractors using the method.

I am considering requiring adherence to D6465 for adhesive and sealant selection in future specs, however some of my colleagues feel that vendors and contractors will balk and complain that the requirements are excessively onerous.

Any comments are welcome, but I would be especially interested in:

How well accepted is D6465 by your contractors and vendors?

Since you began using D6465, have adhesive and sealant failures decreased in your products?

Do you believe that each step of D6465 adds value to the process, or if not, why.

Do you believe anything is missing from the D6465 method?

How much paper do you generate for each application?

For each application, how many of the tests listed in table 4 are necessary.  Obviously this varies from application to application, but there appears to be redundancy in the table.

Do you have any worksheets, templates or such for the D6465 method that you would be willing to share?

Thanks.

Ok, if you are not using ASTM D6465, why not?

What process do you use to ensure that your adhesive applications are sound?
