Deep Freeze

My tech college (where I teach SolidWorks) uses this program on all the PCs. Unfortunately - there's a few settings I need to "tweak" for SolidWorks every night. I'm an adjunct instructor - I asked the full-time instructor to have the IT department make these few small changes. He tells me that would require un-installing Deep Freeze - making the changes - then re-installing it on every PC. I'm not familiar with this... But it says something about being able to update the settings. Don't seem to me they'd have to un-install & re-install it. Anybody know more about this?

TateJ,
What settings are you tweaking for SolidWorks? Maybe we can come up with a batch file or macro to make this settings by running a program.

All the toolbar & menu locations & options are set to the defaults. If you recall - that docks the COMMAND MANAGER horizontally across the top. This hides many commands. Also - a bunch of toolbars are opened & docked at the top & sides. If anything... I try to get my students to dock the COMMAND MANAGER at the side. Every night I have a few students say they can't find a command & it's because it's hidden off the right side of the screen - which would normally be the bottom of the COMMAND MANAGER (if it were docked on the side)! Those are the actual - minor - SolidWorks "tweaks".

The real PITA is the mouse driver. I have to open the CONTROL PANEL & customize the MOUSE settings to "disable intellipoint wheel support" for SolidWorks. Or else - the driers are in conflict & every time you zoom in enough to envoke the slider bars - you loose the ability to zoom/pan with the wheel.

You asked... I typed...

So it's a matter of "thawing" the PCs, making the changes, then "freezing" them back. Sounds like a job for I.T... It is their job... right? (rhetorical)

RE: Deep Freeze

Help IT out, make a batch file that can be scheduled to run to correct the settings. Have them schedule a "thaw", the batch file, and the "freeze". Deep Freeze is good software, you certainly cannot get virus with this installed...

RE: Deep Freeze

Deep Freeze is used to protect computers in public places (like a classroom or library) from users who may change settings.  Every time the computer starts up, it reloads the entire system with all its settings at once.

It is not necessary to reload SolidWorks in order to keep changes to settings.  However, it would be necessary to reload Deep Freeze if you want to keep settings.
