drawing an elliptical gear teeth profile

(OP)
Can someone please teach me how to draw an elliptical gear teeth profile in autocad or mastercam so I can use the drawing to convert to machine code for the EDM wire cut machine.

The diametre of the elipse is: 7.425 x 8.20 inches.

There are 65 teeth

Roughly 3 modules 20 PA, 8 inches centre distance.

I need help asap.

RE: drawing an elliptical gear teeth profile

Suggest you start by checking out everything in this recent thread :thread406-132225, assuming you haven't already.

RE: drawing an elliptical gear teeth profile

I have a Gear Handbook (in Chinese) that teaches
how to derive the tooth profile coordinates
of the elliptic gears. But how to derive the
coordinates of the fillet of the elliptical gears
is not given in this book.

In fact, Litvin's book of "gear geometry and applied
theory" has a chapter that gives general
procedure how to derive the above mentioned coordinates.

If you need these materials, contact me at
(604) 523-5509, so that I may mail the material to
you.
