"Kina" stamping ?

"Kina" stamping ?

"Kina" stamping ?

(OP)
Imagine you have a flat 3 mm sheet metal and you want to press it from the near side, 25 mm dia x 1 mm deep, so on the far side you will get 25 mm dia x 1 mm hi "bump".

Later the part will be bent here and there (not through the "bump") so I would like to use the Sheet Metal Toolbar.

At this moment I make that "bump" by "adding" Extruding 25 mm dia x 1 mm deep on far side and Extruding-Cut (same dims) on the near side.

I wonder if I could do any better than that.

Thanks.

RE: "Kina" stamping ?

Look up forming tools, I think that's what you're after.

RE: "Kina" stamping ?

Yes ... use the Emboss or Dimple tools from the Feature Palette or Design Library (depending on SW version)

BTW, what's "Kina" mean?

Getting "kina" close, but no cigar yet ...

The problem is that I would like to have the "forming" tool overlapping ("over-extending") one edge, but I am getting errors.

I could have the sheet metal larger than needed, do the forming within the boundaries of the plate (no error in that case), then trim it to size - "kina" work around ...

Wondering if I could do it in one shot, with forming tool "overlaping the edge" of the sheet metal, that is tool would be partially forming metal and partially "forming" the air.

Oooopssss .... it looks like I was using the wrong tool - Indent.

Right now I switched to Deform - things look much better ...

RE: "Kina" stamping ?

Sheetmetal right? I don't think Indent or Deform are work you need.

Checkout the help on Sheetmeal forming tools. Also, there should be some samples in the Design Library "Sheetmetal Forming Tools". Dimples, Louvers, etc.

RE: "Kina" stamping ?

Right, this will depend if you need your sheetmetal to flatten back out later or if this is just a feature you want to have in your "sheetmetal" part with very customized shapes.  I've done both with sheetmatal parts, depending on what sorts of forms I've needed within the design (and depending on the limits of the forming tools within the sheetmetal features).

Right, ...

Looks like both of you fellas are right ... Deform (Surface) looked great for a while till I realised that the sheet metal is deformed not only "locally" but "globally" - the "rest of the sheet metal is NOT "flat" anymore - could not make a bent for example ...

Uffff ....   Thanks for help ...
