Header flat plate end closure

Header flat plate end closure

Header flat plate end closure

I need to figure some flate end closures for a pipe header and do not have access to ASME books or for that matter any pressure vessel references.  I have searched the net for the methods used and have had no luck.  Can you please point me to some data on this subject or recommend a god book that I can order which will cover general pressure vessel and pipe capculations.

Thanks, Ken

Pressure Vessel Handbook by Megyesy

and for the piping you'll need to find something w/ Section 1 PP Power Piping for the header plates.

RE: Header flat plate end closure

TX...

Have you considered a simple slip-on flange with a blind for an end closure ?

How about a simple cap ?

If you are thinking of slipping a flat plate up into a pipe and fillet welding from the outside, this type of  construction will not meet the ASME-VII requirements.

My opinion only...

RE: Header flat plate end closure

Design of circular flat plates with various loading conditions is covered in "Formulas for Stress and Strain" by Roark.

If the work needs to meet any kind of code, or poses any kind of hazard if it fails, I'd recommend buying the proper codes or consulting someone that has them.  The Roark book, for example, will let you calculate stress, but won't tell you what the stress should be.

The end closure is used on a non-ASME code water coil header.   Just wanting to check that the header can take the test presures ans working pressures.

Thanks for the lead to the handbook, Wabbitt.
