Help in transitioning from SW to SE
Help in transitioning from SW to SE
(OP)
I have used SW for 5+ years and am now at a company that is switching from SDRC to SE V17. I have been going though the tutorials, but am having difficulty due to my history with SW's. Can anyone recommend any techniques or cross reference tools that would aid me in this transition?

Workflow wise, Solid Edge can use sketches for sketch based features, or the more default method of "profiles" which are sketches that are embedded in a feature. Which you use depends upon prefrence and need.
The SmartStep ribbon bar is a very powerful feature, but is difficult to comprehend for new users from other systems. It leads you through the steps of creating a feature, but also gives you direct access to each step after the fact for easy editability without the need to delete and start over.
I don't know what else to tell you, but if you have specific questions don't hesitate to ask, but I do recommend that you try posting in the UGS ran newsgroups for timeliness.

RE: Help in transitioning from SW to SE
The single most useful tip I can give is to NOT try to use SE as if it is SW ... it ain't. SE is as good as SW, it just has its own way of doing things. Once you get used to the logic of its feature creation flow you will find it equally as useable as SW.
Work through ALL the tutorials at many times as necessary. Some are so simple just reading them is enough, others you will have to do repeatedly to shake off the SW way of doing things.
Good luck.
