Site Development

(OP)
I am seeking information on site planning/excavating for an assignment any and all info would be greatly appreciated!! Helpful journal referrals of web sites in this area are desperately needed Ditchwitch

RE: Site Development

You could start with CENEWS at www.cenews.com. They have interesting articles that are not extremely technical. This is a good place to get started. Additionally, you might try picking up a copy of "Moving the Earth", published by McGraw Hill. Of course if your needs are project specific you will want a copy of the local grading ordinance.

Another resource that may be helpful is the Site Planning and Design Technical Manual (TM 5-803-14)that can be found on the US Army Corps of Engineers website. It discusses the design process, site analysis, and gives design guidelines. I don't recall the exact web address, but if you reach the Corps of Engineers website through a search engine, you can drill down through TECHINFO/Army Technical Manuals/ you should see it.

If that doesn't supply enough detail, the Land Development Handbook - Planning, Engineering and Surveying by Dewberry & Davis may be helpful. It is published by McGraw-Hill. I believe their website is McGraw-Hill.com where you can view more detailed information of what is contained in the book.

RE: Site Development

For the real basics, try "Practical Manual of Site Development" by B.C. Colley (McGraw Hill).
