New AISC LRFD Specification Inconsistency for Element Shear Yield?
New AISC LRFD Specification Inconsistency for Element Shear Yield?
(OP)
Hmmm
has anyone noticed that the LRFD reduciton factor for "strength of elements in Shear - shear yielding of element" - Chapter J - has been increased from 0.9 to 1 in the 2005 AISC steel specifications?
New 2005 LRFD Specifications - EQ J4-3 LRFD factor = 1
Old LRFD 3rd Edition - EQ J5-3 LRFD factor = 0.9

RE: New AISC LRFD Specification Inconsistency for Element Shear Yield?
please see the commentary to AISC 360-2005, on page 351, they were "recalibrating" the LRFD provisions a little to make them show a safety factor that more closely matches the one in ASD.
