5Cr Alloys
5Cr Alloys
(OP)
I would generally like to hear about where 5Cr alloys are being applied.
Also what differentiates the use of 3,5,9 Cr., other than allowable stress at design temp.
Thanks, Rick

RE: 5Cr Alloys
5% Cr alloys are used in the Power Industry to provide increased resistance to oxidation upon exposure to elevated temperature service and also to increase resistance to steam erosion. Use of this alloy can be varies from boiler tubes to piping for drains or by-pass lines containing wet steam conditions.
Increasing the chrome content of the alloy increases the resistance to high temperature oxidation. The increase in strength comes from molybdenum and vanadium additions.
