Setting custom properties
Setting custom properties
(OP)
Hi all,
Is there any way to do a mass tabulated type change of custom properties for all of the component parts in an assembly.
I would like to be able to do this across all configurations of the component parts. The properties I would like to change in particular are drawnby, material and finish.
I know I can do this on a part by part basis, we evaen have a macro to do this on a part by part basis. The problem (of sorts) is that some typing is required, which after about 100-200 parts, gets pretty darn tedious, not to mention inefficient.

RE: Setting custom properties
1. Right click on file(s) within Windows explorer.
Then go to properties -> custom
Add text to value fields.
The advantage here is that you do not need to have files
open with Solidworks to make changes.
Should be faster also.
2. You can try using PDMWorks if you have during check in process. Have not really tried this but I image might be helpful way.

Then you get to watch it open, operate & close a few hundred files.
Grab some buddies & make popcorn.
Seriously... test it first on a few copies of your intended victims.

RE: Setting custom properties
There are examples in API help on how to traverse an assembly and get each part. You could then incorporate your macro to change those properties.

Not sure how much this costs and have never used this program. You can go to the site below for more info:
