(OP)
I'm a newbie in the electrical power engineering field, and I was hoping that I could find some kind of mentor outside to provide some direction in my career steps. However my company isn't well suited for this, and I'd prefer someone outside of the company so that I there is no conflict of interest. I'm trying my alumni resources, but I wanted to know if anyone else had any suggestions......Thanks.

RE: mentor

This particular forum is oriented more toward technical questions, but other Eng-Tips forums do deal with career issues.

Think of the entire site as a meta- mentor.

RE: mentor

Post your technical questions here. REed the other posts and learn about technical issues. Join IEEE.  Read the trade magazines to learn all you can about our industry.  We will help you learn, but you have to work at it.

Good luck and welcome to the profession.
