Macros not working

Macros not working

Macros not working

(OP)
We installed SW 2006 SP1.0 on some computers here, but we are having problems with macros on 1 computer.  We uninstalled previous versions of SW, and cleaned the registry and other files as suggested in the FAQ's on this forum. We also made sure that McAfee was turned off.  We have several macros that we use, but the most important one is a property editor macro, and no matter what we try, absolutely no SW macro will work on this problem computer.
Actually I just found out that macros in excel aren't working either.  I looked in the McAfee security settings, and the Windows XP Professional security settings, and I can't find out how to turn scripts back on.

Does anyone have any idea?

RE: Macros not working

Just going from memory, I believe if you RMB on a script file, you are given options to allow that script to run once, run always or run all scripts.

I can't get it to run period, not even once.  My only guess is that there is a security setting on that computer that prevents running macros.  He uninstalled and re-installed SW 2006 3 times yesterday, didn't think about trying the macros in other programs until this morning.

RE: Macros not working

Yeah, it sounds more like a windows problem rather than SW.
Why not post the problem on Tek-Tips, say forum779 "Microsoft: Windows XP Pro Forum"

RE: Macros not working

I wonder if there is a slight chance that it's a SW/M$ Office issue:

1/6/04 Bulletin - Support for Microsoft Office
... SolidWorks 2005 will be the last release that supports Office 2000.

We recommend that you update your Office 97 installation to Office 2003 or Office XP...
From SW Technical Bulletin dated 1/6/04,http://www.solidworks.com/pages/services/CustomerBulletins.html
The problem computer is the one still using Office 2000, and a fellow here said that the macro security settings in Excel can affect SW.

RE: Macros not working

Well I am still running Office 2000 at work and the macros work fine on that system. Has the path changed for your Macros? You can add a Macro path in Tools\OPtions\System OPtions\File locations - The way I have my MAcros setup is in a separate folder in my Root Directory. I store all images and macros there and just manually add them to my SW version that I install. I have never had a problem doing it this away.

Thanks Scott; it wasn't Office 2000 after all.  We installed 2003 and we still had problems.  It's not the location of the macros because I also put all macros, part/drawing/sheet templates, blocks/dimension favorites/note favorites in a folder outside of the SW install location.  This is an old habit I have just in case I have to uninstall SW, I don't lose all custom items.  Everything is pointed to the right location.

We have checked the security settings in Excel and McAfee, I just don't know why macros/scripts can't be run on that computer.

RE: Macros not working

Well if you read the orange paper, Office 2003 isn't supported in SW06... There are some known bugs in the softawre in caompat with SW. SW has some workarounds and you might want to check with your VAR as they should be aware Office 2003 is not supported. SW may have some type of fix for this.

RE: Macros not working

I have run Excel macros from Office2003 without any problems in SW2006.  I have also created macros in SW2006 that have run without problems.

Scott,

Where do I find this orange paper you speak of?

Regg

RE: Macros not working

I'm not sure if I found the culprit, but I that user used a program called Registry Mechanic on that computer.  It may have nothing to do with it, but he said he found over 2,000 errors with Reg Mechanic, and he let it automatically clean the registry without reading what it was cleaning.

RE: Macros not working

Registry Mechanic is a good program & shouldn't  have affected the macro operation ... but you never can tell!
If the program is still on that machine you may be able to search the backup (if one was done) for a likely culprit & re-install.
