Finding equations "where used"

Finding equations "where used"

Finding equations "where used"

(OP)
Some here will use equations on a top level assembly, and others use equations on a sub assembly, for example:

Main Assembly (top level)
  Sub-Assembly 1
   Part 1
   Part 2
  Sub-Assembly 2
   Part 1
   Part 3

If I try to modify a dimension on a part, I get a pop-up that says "1954-02P Dimension Hole_Distance@Sketch3@1945-02P.  Part is read-only."
I don't know where the part's equation is written without opening each sub-assembly or the top-level assembly, and looking at the equations.   Either this is one of the short-falls of SW, or I am just doing it wrong.  How do ya'll handle this?

RE: Finding equations "where used"

If you open the parts you are trying to change so that it is NOT read-only, you shouldn't have the problem.

RE: Finding equations "where used"

Open part, right click on dimension, click properties, then in the upper right corner of dialog you will see “Read only” then the file name where it is used.
I only have one place it is used so do not know what would happen if used twice.

I thought that was too easy of an answer.  By right-clicking the dimension, it tells me where the equation is being driven, but unchecking the "read only" box doesn't help.  If I uncheck the "read only" box, I can change the dimension, but whenever I go to the assembly and rebuild, it reverts back to the evaluated-equation and it automatically re-checks the "read only" checkbox on the part.

RE: Finding equations "where used"

Flores,
You are right about the distance returning. With an equation, I had to use the information to find the model and delete the equation in the assembly. Then I could change it and it would keep. We used to have a button edit in contents.
