ControlLogix download issue

ControlLogix download issue

ControlLogix download issue

(OP)
Hi,
We are currently upgrading our PLC 5/80C 1.5 processors to ControlLogix L63. The problem is that when we download to the Controllogix, it kills a PLC5/80 on the same controlnet link. In no particular order either ! It clears the memory of a PLC 5 and faults it. Pretty odd, but we thought it may be a one off issue.
It has now happened on two different controlnet links so it is not an isolated incident.
Has anybody experianced this before ! we are at a loss as to what might be causing it. AB are also at a loss as to explaining it, they are saying it has never happened to them before !!
I know theres an I_BE_DEAD file that can be recovered from the PLC5 but i hear its in binary and has to be sent to AB for them to analize it.

RE: ControlLogix download issue

Try clearing the keepers on your ControlNet network. We have found that sometimes invalid connections are generated within PLC and Networx programs and that this faults the ControlNet bridges. Another thing to try is once you have all of the PLCs running on the network, use the programming software to save the current running copy. This will save the correct connections within the programs.

Thanks for the info,
Please explain clearing the keepers. We have multiple controlnet links(5 in all). This has happened on link 2 and 5. Both times defaulting another PLC5/80 on the link for no reason.
I will try saving all PLC5/80 processors on same link before downloading to controllogix and see how that goes. Cheers

RE: ControlLogix download issue

In the RsLogix 5000 installation disc is a tool called Clear Keeper. In a ControlNet network there are always one or more "keepers". These act as bus controllers and schedulers. For example the 1756-CNB(R) is a keeper. Using RsNetworx you can list all of the keepers on your network. In any case the only way to erase the current schedules within the keepers of your network (there probably is more than one) is to use the above tool. Please be aware that if you do clear the keepers, your entire network will be down until you reload the keepers. This will have an impact to your facility.
