What's this all about?

What's this all about?

(OP)
Whenever I want to insert anything using Smart Fasteners, I get the following error:

Error: The database file 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Solidworks Data\lang\english\swbrowser.mdb' is not the expected version (8,6).

Any suggestions?

RE: What's this all about?

Do you have multiple versions of SW installed?

Nope. Just 2004.

RE: What's this all about?

Did you do a complete & clean uninstall/install as per the FAQs?

Have you tried the Alternative to try before reinstalling  FAQ559-507?

Have you tried a Repair or Modify with the SW install discs?

My dirty hack for this problem *if* you have Access installed;

- Make a backup copy of swBrowser.mdb (i.e. swBrowser.mdb.old).  That way, you can always go back
- Open the swBrowser.mdb file.
- There is a table called 'VERSION' in the database, open it and change the value in the CurrentVersion column to the version that SW expects to see.

I would suggest trying 8.5 to see if that works.  If not, try 8.4, 8.3 etc...

I had this problem when applying a service pack to 2004 aswell.  This seemed to fix it OK.

RE: What's this all about?

You do realize by hacking in *.mdb file SW will not support you, especially if the DB was to corrupt.... I know this fixed the issue, I is just want you to be aware of this.

RE: What's this all about?

Scott

Could you please elaborate on why SW would not support this?

BTW, this solution was arrived at by working in conjunction with my VAR.

Martin

RE: What's this all about?

By editing the file you could make a change that could corrupt the DB. SW will tell you straight up that they will not support a Customer that has a problem that pertains to you editing the mdb file. Now as a VAR if you send the file into them they can work with SW to help figure out the issue. But under no circumstanaces would I have one of my customers change the mdb themselves. I would change it with the help of SW, before I worked with the customer on changing the file... but that's just my Opinion.

Fair do...

Just checked out your site for the first time - nice work.  Consider it added to my list of SW resources

Have a good one
