Future boom of Engineering in Health/Medical industries???

Future boom of Engineering in Health/Medical industries???

Future boom of Engineering in Health/Medical industries???

(OP)
Do any of you think there will be much of a future boom for engineers in the medical/health industries?

With the # of baby boomers becoming senior citizens, and the # of babies being born, some of the equipment and materials used to care for them can be improved.  There are probably devices that need to be engineered to take care of problems that are just being recognized.

RE: Future boom of Engineering in Health/Medical industries???

Seems like you answered your own question.

"I think there is a world market for maybe five computers."
Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943.

RE: Future boom of Engineering in Health/Medical industries???

I really hope it piggy-backs onto our country's world-class medical field. I know that the San Diego area has a very high bioengineering and biomedical engineering presence. UCSD has also established itself as a top bioeng/biomed research school. Like MEMS, biomed/bioeng has been awaiting the groundbreaking 'boom', but nothing tremendous has happened thusfar (i'm sure someone will refute this statement in a disparaging manner.)

Biomed is a truly multi-disciplined field (it includes mechanical, electrical, signal processing, chemical, bio, materials, CS, etc.)

RE: Future boom of Engineering in Health/Medical industries???

Yes.
