Single-phase reversible - start winding conductor size...

(OP)
I have lots of experience with 3 phase but I can't find a definitive answer for this...

120V, half-horsepower, single-phase reversible motor, 9.8 FLA - I need to bring the start-winding connections out to a reversing relay in a panel 5 feet away.

What should (or must) the relay contact ratings be, and what size conductors?

Must the conductors in question handle full inrush (I'm guessing not) and if so, for how long? Are such conductors, for all intents and purposes, "intermittent duty" used only for a couple of seconds at startup?

Interpolating from clues gleaned from NEC and this forum's archives, I'm tempted to go with 10 amp contacts and 16 to 18 awg wires.

TIA
