Referencing Datasheets -- MLA Format

Referencing Datasheets -- MLA Format

Referencing Datasheets -- MLA Format

(OP)
What is the best format for referencing datasheets for electrical components using the MLA format? On which type of citation would one base the datasheet citation? Would one include the current website address of the datasheet (knowing that websites are updated and addresses become outdated)?

For parenthetical citations, would one use the first word of the datasheet title followed by the page number on which the cited information appears? How about for footnotes?

Thanks in advance!

RE: Referencing Datasheets -- MLA Format

I would rather submit these datasheets under own section of project, reference to Section, datasheet No. Page no

That would be sufficient, what you could do is put these on a webpage format lnking them to correct datasheet and page using the path,

We have done browsers for documentation, the client loved it as did his technical staff, all information was linked and about 4 clicks away..

All you do is create your own webpage with necessary links.

Do you mean that I create my own webpage linking to manufacturer's datasheets?

I am writing a research paper, so I do not think I should cite my own webpage...

The paper contains specifications and graphs pulled directly from the manufacturer's datasheets.

Thanks in advance!

RE: Referencing Datasheets -- MLA Format

I would do something like:

Acme electronics TDS for XYZ component. 2003. Acme Electronics. 10 Feb. 2003 <http://www.acme_electric.com/XYZ_tds>

If the datasheet had an obvious document number and revision I would included that as well.

Acme electronics TDS for XYZ component. Document 1234, Rev. c. 2003. Acme Electronics. 10 Feb. 2003 <http://www.acme_electric.com/XYZ_tds>

Thank you MintJulep for the sample references!

How about footnotes? Is the following correct?

Analog Devices Datasheet for AD8314 – 100 MHz–2.5 GHz 45 dB RF Detector/Controller, (Norwood: Analog Devices, 2002) 10 Oct. 2005 <http://www.analog.com/UploadedFiles/Data_Sheets/191539055AD8314_a.pdf>, 2.

The page number seems to stick out somewhat... Should there be punctuation between the closing parenthesis and the date?

Thanks in advance!

Footnotes should be used to provide additional information to the reader, not for citation of references.
