Assembly tap - cosmetic threads through all parts?

Assembly tap - cosmetic threads through all parts?

Assembly tap - cosmetic threads through all parts?

(OP)
I'm trying to place an assembly-level tap through 2 mated plates, but cannot get the cosmetic threads to go beyond the 1st plate (the tap drill does go through both plates).  I've tried  Thru all, Blind, Up To Surface.  I've tried to manually edit the cosmetic thread length.  Has anyone successfully done this?

Thanks,
Mike

It does the same for me. But, now I do not insert cosm thds into assy's...they are all in the parts.

Yes, it is an odd situation, but accurate to the machining process... 2 plates are welded together, then a drill and tap run through both.

RE: Assembly tap - cosmetic threads through all parts?

This is a bug in SolidWorks as far as I am concerned.  I and some of my associates have logged an enhancment request.  I urge you to do the same.  As a work-around, I add my own cosmetic thread the the second plates so it shows correctly on the drawing.

RE: Assembly tap - cosmetic threads through all parts?

Hi, mmlentz:

I do not answer for you regarding cosmetic thread.  But if two plates were welded together, it should be a multiple-body part not an assembly.  If you do this, then you should have no problem.
