how do you save your menus, shortcuts, etc in 2006

how do you save your menus, shortcuts, etc in 2006

how do you save your menus, shortcuts, etc in 2006

(OP)
We're new to 2006 in our office (from 2002) and I was wondering a few things about how you create custom shortcuts, and save you personal customizations.

I used to make a copy of my "support" folder aand store it remotely when I used 2002. If I had to reinstall, I'd paste the old folder in and overwrite the newly installed one to preserve my shortcuts, lisps, toolbars, etc. That seemed to work OK.
My understanding is that 2006 is reading from the 2002 application still installed on my machine for my old shortcuts. Is there a way to preserve that information in a way similar to what I've desribed above so I can easliy reinstate my customizations in the event of a re-install?

Also, how do you write a keyboard shortcuts in 2006? In 2002 I used to amend the .pgp file. I can see things are different in 2006. I've been reading the help, but I'm still confused.

thanks,
sundemon

Keyboard shortcuts in 2006 can be made via the CUSTOMIZE USER INTERFACE. Type CUI at the command line.

thanks for your response WMO, but I was hoping for a little more information. The keyboard shortcuts I'm speaking of are not "control>0 for open" and that sort of thing, but the kind of command prompt custom shortcuts I used to do by adding to the "acad.pgp" file in earlier releases. For example, I type "QS" for quicksave, etc.

Sorry, but I've been looking through the help, etc. but I find the cui window rather confusing.

Look under alias under AutoCAD help. It is still with the .pgp file though.

If you have express tools loaded you can use the COMMAND ALIAS EDITOR under Express Tools....Tools

The CUI definitely takes some getting used too.

I finally happened onto the information I was looking for in my initial post, where is 2006 writing all the cui information to, where is the active .pgp file for 2006, so I can isolate a copy of these files to have in the event of a reinstall, or other calamity ( a given, for sure...)

On my local C,Document and Settings, username, Autodesk...

and so on down the chain, I finally found the "Support" folder that is active.

Maybe obvious to some, but it was driving me crazy!

Thanks to all for your help.

Under tools>options>files you will find all the search paths for the files.
