MV Circuit Breaker with magnetic actuator for Ladle Furnace

MV Circuit Breaker with magnetic actuator for Ladle Furnace

(OP)
Can you advise me about the 15kV CB's for 18MVA Ladle Furnace (LF) Transformer switching which requires approximately 150 operation/day.

Do you know or have experience on the Amvac CB's of ABB with magnetic actuator/electronic control circuit and can we use it for LF application?
If it is not, which CB's you may advise for such a severe duty.

RE: MV Circuit Breaker with magnetic actuator for Ladle Furnace

I don't have any experience with a Ladle furnace. However I do have about 38 AMVAC breakers by ABB in service with 39 more going in service in March of 2006. After some initial problems with interference on the control circuit board of the breaker causeing errant trips they have worked well. We have used alot of ABB gear in our plants and have had pretty good luck with it. The AMVAC breaker lends itself to alot of operations because of so few moving parts and vacume interupting chambers. I will warn you if you use these breakers make sure to understand the inner workings of them because they will change how you design the control circuits based on not having a true "Trip Coil" and not having stored energy for a long period of time if control power is lost like a spring actuated breaker does.
