Non-linear displacement from temperature load

Non-linear displacement from temperature load

Non-linear displacement from temperature load

(OP)
Hi all,

I have a simple model with one B23 element (unit length) cantilevered, with coeff. of expansion of 1.0. When a temperature load of -0.5 is applied (NLGEOM option turned on), I expect the final strain (E) to be -0.5 and the free end nodal displacement (U1) to be -0.5.

ABAQUS gives me E=-0.5, but U1=-0.999. The structure disappeared! What's happening here?

(The theory manual mentioned each increment is calculated base on the previous. If i assume ABAQUS uses the gauge length of the previous increment, I obtained an analytical solution of U(E)=L0(exp(E)-1). But this doesn't give what ABAQUS gave me.)

would be most grateful if anyone can give me some directions. thanks
