RE: Welders qualification according to ASME Code IX
Yes, if the WPQ addresses the essential variables and testing requirements set forth in Section IX. However, if you plan on using that same WPS in Code fabrication it must also address the essential variables and testing requirements set forth in Section IX.

The ASME has its own forms and formats so you must comply with the ASME requirements,
The NB/ASME AI will not allow the practice,
All test have to be initiated under the ASME Code,
If the NB/ASME AI allow tests under a different Code then it must be presented on the proper forms and accepted by the AI under the ASME Code sec IX.
I like to see other replies.

What is the nature of your work for the welders - new construction or repair work? If you intend to qualify welders in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section IX guidelines, you will need a qualified WPS that addresses all essential welding variables listed in ASME Section IX, Article II.
GenB; format of a WPS is not a requirement. All of the essential welding variables for a particular process must be stated and addressed on a WPS per Section IX . Format is up to the individual company, and ASME format is only a suggestion.

The nature of our work is new construction. I have qualified the welding process according to ASME Code sec. IX for same job one year ago.
My curiosity was if I can qualify the welders according to ASME IX using as support A WPS EN Certified. The essential welding variables are the same; the difference is the name of classification of the filler metal, name of process.
Thanks

I was wondering if you qualified the welding process to ASME Section IX one year ago, why don't you use this same procedure to qualify the welders or are you attempting to qualify the welders to a different welding process?
RE: Welders qualification according to ASME Code IX
Not a requirement but you can certainly stay out of trouble if you use their format,
why recomend it then?
It does not have to be the same format but one which addresses the same information.

I have a preference for ASME WPS format, and transferring of information is easy to do. Also, having a happy Inspector is like having a happy wife (or husband) at home.
