Gents,

I'm trying to grapp some info to design an Horizontal Sep.with fluid specifications below:
separate 5000m3/d of crud at 10bars 20C.
Have been looking for more technics every where and I can not get enough methods to start my studies.
Would any one give some guidance on some useful info I ca can have on this subject.

Are you looking at 2 or 3 phase separation?  Also, 20deg C looks very low for a production temperature, is that the ambient temeprature?

Spearators are usually designed on retention time, and three phase separators need a longer retention time for the same conditions than a two phase separator.

I'm a well engineer, so all I can tell you is that the  production engineering notes that I have quote the following retention times:

2 Phase separator:
1 minute for above API 35
2 minutes for API 20 - 30
3 - 4 minutes for API 10 - 20

3 Phase separator:
3 - 5 minutes for above API 35
below API 35  5 - 10 minutes (operating temp higher than 100deg f); 10 - 20 minutes (op temp 80 - 100deg f); 20 - 30 minutes (operating temp 60 - 80deg f).

Calculate the volume of the separator filled with liquid (typically half the whole separator volume), and make sure this is larger than the folwrate multiplied by the required retention time.  The separator is then designed in line with whatever pressure vessel code you are using: ASME VIII, or whatever.
