hydropneumatic surge tank

hydropneumatic surge tank

(OP)
I am not familiar with surge tank design and need one to protect a deep injection well.  Static pressure is 20 psi, operating pressure is 40 psi.  I need to protect from water hammer and fluid column seperation.  I am told that I need to install a check valve between the surge tank and well, but I am not getting a good answer when I ask "why?".  Can anyone explain why I need a check valve between the surge tank and the well?
Thanks,
Wellguy

RE: hydropneumatic surge tank

You only need a check valve if this is to be a one way surge tank. Your surge analyst should be specifying the size and type of surge tabk that you need.
