lens with "float glass" process ?

lens with "float glass" process ?

lens with "float glass" process ?

(OP)
A small glass pellet of measured size melts on a tin (?)
bath and contracts. A large pellet gives a slightly
rounded disc, a small one a flattened sphere -- between
the two extremes there must be a combination of size, temperature, gravity etc. which gives a lens which is  closest to the optically perfect one.

How to determine these data ? any use for cheap mass-produced lenses ?

RE: lens with "float glass" process ?

There are already cheap molded plastic lenses available.  These will be cheaper than any glass lens you could make.

I am familiar with a company that uses a similar approach to make plastic lens arrays.
