anodizing ACME threads

anodizing ACME threads

I am designing a system where ACME threads will be cut in 6061-t6.  What I am looking at right now is ~5"-10 tpi ACME.  The threads are being used to restrain a large pressure induced force so low backlash is not a requirement.

We will hard anodize these threads with to .002" thick.

The question is: can I cut the threads to a 2G spec and still avoid interferance?

thanks

RE: anodizing ACME threads

A .002" hardcoat anodize will result in a dimensional increase on each surface of around .001" , since the anodize layer eats into the substrate to a depth of about half of the film thickness.

Sorry- I should have specified  a .002" build up of hard coat anodize.

I am just wondering if anyone had any practical experience with anodizing ACME threads.
