combustion chamber design

combustion chamber design

(OP)
Hi,I need information about combustion chamber design (combustion calculations, heat transfer process, estimated and design of burners...)

The device is a tubular reactor(6´´ID) that will be inside of combustion chamber (tubular too,15´´ID) and will be heated for burners of natural gas.

A million of thanks

RE: combustion chamber design

You need to do some research on heat release rates for the fuel(s) that you intend to use.  That should govern your furnace dimensions based on your heat requirements.

Thank for your quick tip,I Know the heat rate tubular reactor needs: about 77 kW.
My doubt is how to obtain a model of heat transfer and energy balance (burners->flame radiation->heat transfer of gas combustion [radiation and convection]-> refractory emissions->heating of steel reactor....)
I´ve been looking of in several e-books (incropera,kern,perry..., but i haven´t found something.
Do you know any book or manual about this questions?

Thank you very much again

RE: combustion chamber design

The books you mention have most of the data you need. I do not know of a single resource to get you to satisfaction.

For energy balance you will need to know the temperature you are heating to and assume some reasonable driving forces to get your overall efficiency.

If you are going to purchase a system you might contact a qualified furnace engineering/supply company.

RE: combustion chamber design

I`ll recomend you to look for the book of Robert E. Treybal, Mass Transfer Operations... I just design the combustion system for a rotary dryer and it was really helpfull.  About burners, as dan21... said, ask to the experts... people at Maxon.com, maybe will help.
