Autosave option in NX3

Autosave option in NX3

Autosave option in NX3

(OP)
Hi everybody. Is there any chance to use autosave option in NX3? I'm new and don't know too much. I have played with solidworks and visi and there you have such an option. I don't believe NX3 to not be capable to autosave the working file.

Please help a newbie.

RE: Autosave option in NX3

I know NX2 does not have an autosave option. I am not sure about NX3.

RE: Autosave option in NX3

Done away with in V10 I believe.  Besides becoming a nuisance while working in large part files (most users tended to turn it off), large assemblies just added more complexity to the issue.  John Baker at the UGS BBS gives a good explanation of the reasons why it was done away with.

RE: Autosave option in NX3

As already stated there is no autosave function. But if you are worried about losing work done on a file, I think there is a trick to recover a file from the undo files (if there is, I bet Ben would know).

RE: Autosave option in NX3

Taken out, this should be put back in, this feature in Solidworks has saved my work many times. In UG it's just gone. They should put in options like Solidworks Large assembly mode which allows you to increase the amount of time between autosaves.

RE: Autosave option in NX3

Yes, there is a trick to recovering a lost UG file.
Your UG session commands are captured in a .syslog file, which just happens to be in similar format to a UG macro file. I haven't done it in a long time, but you basically strip off so many characters (words actually) from the beginning of each line and now it resembles a macro line. Rename the file and then run your new UG macro. It does take some time and usually will get you upto the last completed operation before the crash.
UG's best line of defense against losing works is FFF.

File Fairly Frequently

Regarding Autosave, we never turned it on in pre-V10 because everytime you went back to the main UG menu, yes UG used to be menu driven like Pro/E still is, the autosave function would kick in afer the time setting. On large assemblies this was very annoying. If you just remember to hit the Save icon before adding or deleting a feature to the model, you won't lose any work.   FFF

Someone told me that there was a script that would save based on time (10 min, 30 min, 60 min). Maybe someone knows.

thanks a lot people.

and i just remembered that i wanted to ask you for the redo command. is it like autosave? i mean- no chanse for the newbies?

RE: Autosave option in NX3

Redo is one enhancement I would really like to see...

RE: Autosave option in NX3

Received an answer from John Baker @ bbs regarding a redo:  For NX 4 we have implemented a Redo function in the Sketcher Task.  We
are using the Sketcher Task environment to test a couple of concepts,
and if they prove reliable, they may eventually move up to be more
generally available in the rest of the product, and Redo is one of these
items that is being "tested" for NX 4.  So when you get NX 4, give it a
try and let us know if it works reliably and in a manner that you
expected it to.
