Bending in columns
Bending in columns
(OP)
I need to size a column and base plate.
The column will be free standing and will support a jib crane of 5m radius with a maximum load of 500kg with 180 deg rotation. The column needs to be 8m in height. The spacing between the jib mounting brackets is 1110mm. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I need to show calcs.

Do you plan on bolting this to the floor or to its own foundation? The calculations to determine the capacity of a floor slab are fairly complicated and the typical concrete floor is seldom strong enough. When the floor slab is not adequate a block type foundation needs to be constructed. For jib cranes these can get to be pretty big due to overturning.
