Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

(OP)
Hello

I juste install Catia V5 R15 on my laptop Acer Apsire 3000 on win XP.
The installation is ok but when the mouse is going over some icons (not all of them) the screen is freezing and I have to restart the computer!!!

I know it s not the best machine to use Catia but I just want to see how it works.

Mobile AMD Sempron, Chipset SiS M760GX, TFT LCD 15.4" WXGA Acer CrystalBrite

What I should do to avoid this trouble?

Thanks

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

Hi,

Try new drivers for the graphic card.
I had the same problem with my laptop.

Thanks for helping

Unfortunately I already download the latest driver for the graphic card at www.sis.com!!!

And doesn’t work better!!!

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

Hi,

In my case the latest driver didn't work so I checked at Dassault homepage for certified driver for my computer.
I'm not sure if Acer have any certified products at Dassault.

Settings to increase graphic performance:

Work without graduated background.
tools/options/Display/Visualization Uncheck "Graduated Color Background"

and in tools/options/Display/Performance

-Use Occlusion culling
-Reduce the precision of the tessellation (higher value for fixed 3D Accuracy)
-Increase the Static level of Detail Value
-Increase the Dynamic level of Detail while moving.
-Reduce the number of frames per second.

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

As Akesson points out, the latest drivers are not always those that are certified for CATIA.  Check the DS web page first for the correct drivers.

Hi,

Dassault didn’t t make any certified driver for my laptop but only for 2 workstation who use a Acer chip…

About modify the option: I can t do it because, when the pointer of the mousse is going over some part of the screen, the screens freeze!!!

I am almost sure that is driver problem, and there is probably no solution to solve it. I even can’t contact sis (manufacture of the ship for the graphic) to know if there is any solutions…

Like you I put an older driver but it still doesn’t work!!!

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

You can edit the Tools/Options without starting Catia by opening "Settings managemnet" in Start/Programs/CATIA/tools (or similar).

Hope you soon find a solution to the graphics problem.

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

Don't know if this will help but thought I'd mention it.
At one time in Pro/E we had to turn off Enable pointer shadow in the Pointers tab under Control Panel, Mouse Properties.
Good Luck

Hi

I try both of the previous idea but it doesn’t t work…
But the problem is in fact each time the pointer is going over some part who write under the pointer information about the icon or the function the screen is freezing.

Example: If there is icon like a disk and I am going over it, it ll write under the pointer “SAVE” and my laptop ll stop working!!!

Simple - follow the clear instructions.

You can avoid this trouble by installing Catia on a certified configuration.  Had you done this, you would be able to get from IBM, seeing as how it would NOT have been your fault, in that instance.

Hi,

I don't think you can run r15 with that laptop configuration (AMD 2600+, 128 Mb video card, 256 Mb RAM?).

Can you try to run other release (older)?

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

Have you tried turning off the tooltips?

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

Hi,

About trying an older version…I have only this one…

About Turning off the tooltips, could you tell how I can do it?

Thanks a lot for helping me

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

To turn off the tooltips go to the Options tab under Tools, Customize.
For an older version you can check with your VAR or IBM.

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

Convert your file system to NTFS, a collegue had the same issues, he re-installed Win XP, using the OEM edition not the Acer supplied disks.  The only difference in this that we could find was changing from FAT32 to NTFS.

Thanks for the tips.

I ll try you proposition. Could you tell me if you friend had the same model of laptop which is an Acer Aspir 3000 or at least the same chipset (sis M760 Gx)?
Before to re-format the disc from Fat to ntfs and re-install an OEM version of windows. Did you try to only install an OEM version  on a fat disc?
Like you wrote, I don't really understand why what you have done is working! But I ll try.

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

Hi,

CATIA v5 is running only on NTFS.

Fernando

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

it was an inspire 5000, not sure what chipset.  We reinstalled from the OEM version of Win XP.  I believe there are tools however to change to file system without the need to re-install, although I may be wrong.  I can't say for certain that this will resolve your issues but it worked in our instance.  Good luck, please let us know how it goes.

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

i have acer aspire 3000 with sis m760gx (driver from sis.com) 15,4TFT winXP(ntfs) and catia v5 runs correctly only in that case i
-turn the screen resolution to 1400x1050 (the screen is larger than the display in both directions but 4:3)

-turn the hardware acceleratin to none and disable combined write (on the same properties card(troubleshoot))

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

Hi, i've got the same problem as fredbike.

I tried to follow harmoxy's advice, but it's not possible to turn the screen resolution higher than 1024x768.

And if I try to change the settings without starting Catia I've got the same problem that the screen freezes.

I've got the Acer Aspire 3000 with SiS M760GX , an 15,4TFT screen and WINXP(NTFS).

Has anyone of you some helpful advice for me?

(Please excuse my bad English ;) )

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

to Heglaf: 1024x768 is not enough for 15,4. Normal resolution for 15,4 is 1280x800. Try to reinstall driver. You can get one from http://www.sis.com/download/agreement.php?id=155909
I have the same one and...

RE: Catia V5 on Acer aspire 3000, the screen is freezing!!

@harmoxy:

Thanks, but if I try to install the driver there is an error: "The VGA device does not exist" and I have no idea what I should do now..
