We buy components for our weldments pre-cut. Our shop requires me to leave a 0.06" gap for them to weld the pre-cut pieces together. How can I force SolidWorks to create that gap in a weldment?

Yes - that's what I figured...
but wondered if there was another way.

RE: Weldments Cut-Back

I have a problem with assemblies, I have a component with a double chevron seal, seating against a face, when mated how do i show the completed assembly without the seal 'intefering' with the sealing face.

ANDYDABICO,

Place this into a new thread as it does not pertain to this situation.

RE: Weldments Cut-Back

TateJ,

You asked for another way:

1) After you make the weldment you could make 0.06" wide cuts through the individual sub-parts.

2) Instead of using the weldment tools, you could make the pre-cut parts individual models and put them together in an assembly with a 0.06" gap (certainly not my method of choice).

Just out of curiousity, do you make the part(s) 0.06" smaller to accommodate for the gap?

That's the way I've been told to do it. I don't know what tolerance thay're holding at the supplier when thay cut these pieces - but I bet we pay extra for it.
