Weird BALLOONS ?
Weird BALLOONS ?
(OP)
I have *.SLDASM which consists of 10 "items": 8 simple parts, *.SLDPRT and 2 assys *.SLDASM
When I put BALLOONS on *.SLDDWG the items in the ballons "jump forward" when passing the sub-assys.
items on *.SLDASM items in BALLOONS on *.SLDDWG
1 - *.SLDPRT 1
2 - *.SLDPRT 2
3 - *.SLDPRT 3
4 - *.SLDPRT 4
5 - *.SLDASM 5
6 - *.SLDPRT 7
7 - *.SLDPRT 8
8 - *.SLDASM 9
9 - *.SLDPRT 12
10- *.SLDPRT 13
Now, it 5 - *.SLDASM consists of 2 items, STRIKER and PIN, but this is sub-assy, so on this level it's one item ??
So why does the number jump from 5 to 7 on the next (ASSY) item ?
In fact, when "picking up" on PIN, the BALLOON shows it 6.
Further down, 8 - *.SLDASM becomes 9, but 9 - *.SLDPRT becomes 12, that is "jumps up" 2 numbers
Item 8 - *.SLDASM has only two items, CYLINDER and MARKER
If I BALLON Cylinder it shows it 9 , when I BALLON MARKER it shows 11
What am I doing wrong ??
I haven't seen that before - in fact the BOM shows items CORRECTLY, from 1 to 10 incl - BOM is "Top level only"

RE: Weird BALLOONS ?
- No, I haven't
The things were O.K. as late as yesterday, when I've done a couple of other assy-dwgs.
RE: Weird BALLOONS ?
Also in your assembly if you have items in your assembly hidden you will also experience skips in numbers.

RE: Weird BALLOONS ?
Just did it - problem PARTIALLY solved, that is now the STRIKER and the PIN - both "balloon up" as it. 5 which what it should be. Balloon numbers up to and incl. 7 are now correct.
Also the last two balloons, that is 9 and 10 now are 9 and 10, which is correct.
However, the item 8 *.SLDASM in the BALLOON now shows up as an asterisk.
Any clues ?

RE: Weird BALLOONS ?
So it looks like the last problem is solved and the previous problems were caused by NOT having linked the view to the BOM in the first place.
Thanks for help.
RE: Weird BALLOONS ?
There’s is a pick located on the components properties in the model assembly that allows you to exclude a component / assembly from the BOM. I have seen this happen if I made the change after I created the drawing.
I use it to exclude customer’s parts and layouts etc.

RE: Weird BALLOONS ?
1) When you inserted the BOM, which BOM Type did you have checked: Top Level Only or Parts Only.
2) In the configuration properties of the assemblies is "Don't show child components in BOM when used as a sub-assembly" checked.
RE: Weird BALLOONS ?
Holllly smokes !!! This is just what I need.
BTW, I just discovered, that if you don't want that detail part to appear in the BOM, you MUST exclude it from all CONFIGs that appear on the "linked" view.
Explanation: I have one view supperimposed on another (showing parts in different CONFIG). For a while I could not understand why the EXCLUDED parts were still showing up on the BOM, untill I tried to EXCLUDE them from BOM on the other CONFIG.
