keel bolting and washers

(OP)
Im doing some research into keel bolting and its sealing washers. Can any body give me any advice or send me information regarding materials for bolting and what sort of washer materials are most common and why? Thankyou

RE: keel bolting and washers

All of the sailboats I have seen use stainless bolts, washers and plates and seal them with 5200 from 3M. This includes raceboats that drop their keels regularly for shipping and other boats that don't. I have used this system myself without a problem. Although you have to be very carefull when sealing the keel joint and bolts.
