Welding of Aluminum

Welding of Aluminum

Welding of Aluminum

(OP)
I have been researching welding units both MIG and TIG. Something has struck me as odd everywhere I read that you must have AC to weld alum. when discussing generalities but then getting into specs of weld units and I see DC mig machines that are quite good at Aluminum. What is it about MIG that lets DC work for it but to TIG you need AC?

RE: Welding of Aluminum

On heavier aluminums, you can use DC GTAW welding. It will leave a "dirtier" looking weld but cleans up with a wire brush pretty well. I've used it many times in structural applcations with a problem.

Another good thing about DC GTAW is that you can weld the part without any preheat. When welding with AC GTAW you will find that preheat will stop the tungsten from blowing apart.

mAZ.. i THINK YOU MENT TO SAY "WITHOUT PROBLEM!"

There are no engineers in the hottest parts of hell, because the existence of a 'hottest part' implies a temperature difference, and any marginally competent engineer would immediately use this to run a heat engine and make some other part of hell comfortably cool.  This is obviously impossible.

I made a mistake and I want to apologize, because that thread is related with stainless steel; but, after all read it causes no harm to you.
