Filling a cavity

Filling a cavity

Filling a cavity

(OP)
I have a complicated electronic assembly inside a cavity and I would like to draw a solid that is a negative of that internal cavity. Does anyone know a way of creating a base extrude and substracting the intersecting volumes or some other technique to achieve this?  I am using 2001.

RE: Filling a cavity

I'm not sure if this will work in 2001 since it's been a long time since I used that release.  You could try to save the assembly as a part and creat a mold cavity part.

RE: Filling a cavity

Yes, Heckler's method will work in 2001.  Create an assembly.  You should have a model that fully or partially encompasses the electronic components in the assembly.  Edit the part in the context of the assembly, then pick Insert > Features > Cavity and select the electronic components as your "design" part for the feature.  You probably don't want shrinkage applied, so make sure the setting is 0% or 1.000 or however the terminology goes for SW 2001.  Your part will then have a cavity where the electronic parts are in the assembly.  Open your part and check it out in wireframe or section.
