Mollier charts for natural gas (methane)
Mollier charts for natural gas (methane)
(OP)
Can anyone pls direct me to a website to download (free) a Mollier chart for natural gas (methane will also do) ... especially looking for Excel spreadsheet type data & chart format.
I need to do some comparative calculations regarding isenthalpic vs isentropic expansion (for natural gas distribution & pressure regulation) and the value proposition considering the cost of natural gas & value of electricity.

See thread687-127478 (4 Jul 05 17:59), the ALLPROPS program may interest you.

I checked the posting and the link returns with a "forbidden" reply ... I've even navigated around UI's site to CATS ... but still no access.
Any other suggestions pls?
Thx

I guess U of I didn’t appreciate the extra web traffic.
Try the attached NIST site which is also helpful.

RE: Mollier charts for natural gas (methane)
sorry to be a pain, but I tried this and it came back with not having the information/data for my input ranges (e.g. P1=1000psia, P2=165psia, T2=40F, T1=?).
I am hoping for something like (but for Natrual Gas / Methane, not H2O): ht
Any other suggestions pls?
Thx for patience

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), an official branch of the US government, operates a Website at:
http://webbook.nist.gov/chemistry/fluid/
This website gives FREE thermodynamic data on: Thermophysical Properties of Fluid Systems. Accurate thermophysical properties are available for 34 fluids – including Methane. These data include the following:
Density
CP
Enthalpy
Internal energy
Viscosity
Joule-Thomson coefficient
Specific volume
CV
Entropy
Speed of Sound
Thermal conductivity
Surface tension (saturation curve only)
You can download the tabulated data and drop straight into Excel for Spreadsheet presentation or for use within a spreadsheet.
With this kind of accurate thermo data, I would advise anyone to use this free service rather than rely on a Mollier Diagram. The Mollier is fine for teaching the thermo concepts; you can’t do better than the NIST database.

Great - I'll give it a shot.
