Sacrificial Anode ??

Sacrificial Anode ??

Sacrificial Anode ??

(OP)
Hey

I have a Seal made from Super Duplex

The pump box is made from A 216 WCB (which is a
cast carbon steel or cast iron - I believe)

The pump is pumping Pure Brine.
More salty than sea water. Total Salt saturation.

Would this set up corrosion on the 'lesser part'
i.e. the pump casing ??

Any advice / URLs welcomed

Thanks

RE: Sacrificial Anode ??

Hi Milkboy

It could well do

I have installed two mechanical seals in identical pumps on a seawater service. The seals were Duplex with Tungsten faces.

We found that in one pump the seal faces were eaten away and on the other they were fine.

After investigation it turned out that the pump casings were different materials and on on the seals the faces themselves turned into the sacrificial annode.

Not sure about WCB, but I would definitely investigate it more
