Weld Washers Needed?
Weld Washers Needed?
(OP)
I'm an architectural specifier with a question.
My structural engineer specified a .0295" steel roof deck but indicated that weld washers were not required. At this thickness aren't we right on the AWS/SDI line requiring weld washers?
May I have an opinion?

RE: Weld Washers Needed?
I have found in 7 years of specifying that my consultants - in whatever field - more often than not provide contradictory sections and it is my responsibility to clarify the intent. I also have to be knowledgeable of 16 Divisions of construction. When I posted, it was a Sunday afternoon, my engineer was not available, and I just wanted some clarification.
Thank you though for pointing out that I was asking "a bunch of strangers" their, what I thought would be, expert opinion. The gentlemen on the Woodworking and Roofing sites are always glad to offer advice and opinions.
RE: Weld Washers Needed?
If you look in Vulcraft's steel deck catalog, they have some SDI specs published. On page 39 of the catalog, or 41 of the pdf file of the catalog, under section 3.4.A.2 there is the requirement for weld washers for steel deck that is less than 0.028 inches thick, or less than 22 gauge. In that respect, yes you are on the edge of the requirement, but washers are nevertheless not required according to the specs. That doesn't mean they can't be used of course.
