Please indulge Mainly mech engineer.
Am I right in thinking starpoint earth on a genset is all componants connected to one point as opposed to connected in series ie to each other first (floating)

RE: Starpoint Earth

The starpoint earthing or grounding is done to reference the voltage potential of the lines to earth (Neutral potential).  The star point can be unused, used without reference to ground, solidly grounded, grounded through a resistance, or grounded through a grounding transformer arrangement.

The Wye or Star configuration of windings in a 3 phase generator or transformer means that the ends of the 3 phases are all connected at the star point.  Voltage L-L=Voltage L-N(1.732) Always.  For example 208 = 120(1.732)
Connections other than the star connection point may be series or parallel depending on the configuration of the windings and the voltages desired.
