Model with Mirroring, Hidden lines Not showing up & More

Model with Mirroring, Hidden lines Not showing up & More

(OP)
This part, it is a tee-coupler, made out of 1-1/8 Hex brass, so both ends are identical.  So I made the front half and add a plane and mirrored the back half.  Looked great, so I add a configuration and I sectioned off a quarter of the part.  In the drawing, I imported the left view and then I imported the front view and in the properties I changed it from full view to section view, all is still well.  I turn on some hidden lines in properties and all is still well.  Then I went to the front view and I started to turn on some hidden lines there and suddenly the hidden lines of the thru hole would not appear and if I turn on the hidden lines of the mirror everything appears, including the threads, which I did not want and I can not get it to stop.  Any thoughts or suggestions on this will be deeply appreciated.  Thanks

RE: Model with Mirroring, Hidden lines Not showing up & More

Can you post a pic?

Do the hidden lines show when it's not sectioned? Also usually a section view is done from the drawing using the "section view" tool. Is there a reason you are using a config to do it?

Can you list your computer hardware specs?

FYI, http://www.imageshack.us/ and http://www.webshots.com/homepage.html are 2 free image-hosting sites, and I'm sure there are several more.  Also, in a part, assembly, or drawing file, just do a "save as" jpeg, or just do a screen grab.

Sometimes a picture can explain things easier than mere words can.

Thank you for the responses.  I have decided to take to better part of valor and start over from scratch, this time with out using the mirror.  It make take longer in the in the short haul but it will be shorter and far less trouble in the long run.  Well now I will also see if SP5 will do anything for this beast. Thanks anyway.

RE: Model with Mirroring, Hidden lines Not showing up & More

Have you tried http://www.3dcontentcentral.com ?  If you do a search for "fitting" in the "user library" , a few tee fittings are available that you can use, or reverse-engineer to see how they made their part.

Thank you for the suggestion, Flores.  There is nothing on the planet like these tee-couplers, they are not hydrolic or pipe tees, which are the most common used.  Thank anyway, but I will take a look at them.

RE: Model with Mirroring, Hidden lines Not showing up & More

Is this an assembly? Are you mirroring parts in the assy?

Jason

RE: Model with Mirroring, Hidden lines Not showing up & More

No it is a single part that will go in several assemblies later.  Well, I just learned something, you can not link lengths, like extrustion lengths with this little monster, only diameters can be linked.  Wonderful.  Jason, you can with your CAD program, lucky boy.

RE: Model with Mirroring, Hidden lines Not showing up & More

You mean link dimensions? You right click the dimension and select "Length", give it a name. Then do the same for the other dimension, but pick the name from the list. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you want.

Oh, and to see the dimension, double click the extrude feature. UG does handle expressions better. Solidworks handles it differently, you have Linked dimensions, and equations. Linked dimensions are little more powerful as you can change the dimension in any feature and it updates them all, handle for general fillet sizes and sheetmetal thickness.

Well then, you just learned something that is incorrect ... Diameters and Lengths can  be linked. You can even link a Diameter to a Length if you want to.

I did not realize that if you double clicked a feature the dimensions would appear.  Thanks for that tip, I am now half way done with the replacement.

RE: Model with Mirroring, Hidden lines Not showing up & More

You can also show all dimensions by right clicking the annotation folder at the top tree.

Jason

RE: Model with Mirroring, Hidden lines Not showing up & More

You can double-click any feature in the FM tree or in the graphics area to display that features dimensions.
