Keeping HV away from buildings?

Keeping HV away from buildings?

Keeping HV away from buildings?

(OP)
Does anyone know what the recommended clearances from tranmission lines are to buildings to avoid EMI. We have 115kV transmission lines at a site where we plan on building office facilities. There is concern as to interference from the 115kV transmissiin which will be less than 100'-0" away.

Thanks.

RE: Keeping HV away from buildings?

There isn't much interference from a 110 kV line. It is only when you have partial discharge that you get any HF emission and that is mostly from bad insulator chains in moist weather.

If that is what you are considering, then the distance has to be a lot more than what you say. On the other hand, P.D. isn't normally a problem with these low voltages and it only affects AM radio reception.

Computers, communication and automation devices are not affected at all.

BTW, I have a 110 kV line just outside my house. It has been there more than fifty years (longer than I had the house) and we get along quite well. Never noticed any problems at all. But the electric fence (for cattle) that runs close to the power line does interfere with my fax machine. It emits a chirp every 1100 milliseconds and that is real bad news for the fax.

Surely you have forgotten to mention that extra arm projecting from the center of your chest!

I thought you could have a problem with an insulated fence running along a transmission line.
