Is their a change in the coefficient of thermal expansion of 4140 or any steel for that matter, after it has been hardened?  Does anyone know of any articles on this subject?

No, there is no change in the CTE for 4140 after heat treatment. You can review this data in the web site below for AISI Type 4140 alloy steel in various heat treatment conditions; normalized or quenched and tempered.
