matrix input option for SHELL99

matrix input option for SHELL99

(OP)
Hi, I am trying to model a rectangular plate (dimensions of say 5 by 5 units) using the 3-by-3 matrix input option for shell99.  The model is intended for use in plane stress calculations.  My problem is that after meshing the solid and then replotting with /ESHAPE activated, I get a disjointed mesh plot.  Here are the input values that I am using:

A11 = A1 = 6.5840e7
A12 = A2 = 1.5506e7
A16 = A3 = 1.6891e7
A22 = A4 = 5.0922e7
A26 = A5 = 1.0947e7
A66 = A6 = 1.8006e7

B11 = B1 = 4.547e-13
B12 = B2 = 2.2737e-13
B16 = B3 = 0.0
B22 = B4 = -1.1369e-13
B26 = B5 = 1.1369e-13
B66 = B6 = 2.2737e-13

D11 = D1 = 3.7432
D12 = D2 = 1.2311
D16 = D3 = 1.6775
D22 = D4 = 3.6809
D26 = D5 = 7.5789
D66 = D6 = 1.3983

THICK = 0.375

*Note:  I have used the standard notation for composite laminate stiffnesses (A11, A12, etc.) and then the notation used in the ANSYS documentation (A1, A2, etc.) to let fellow users see exactly how I have entered the data in case I have been doing so incorrectly.  Although not particularly important, I am using SI units.

Also, could someone explain the meaning of the transverse shear term (TRSHEAR)?  Since there are no fiber directions my current interpretation is that, with respect to my rectangular area in the xy-plane, the transverse direction is the z-direction.  Is this correct?

Thanks.

RE: matrix input option for SHELL99

Hi,

I don't know about Shell99 but I had the same problem whith Beam188 and Shell63 together in the same modell. For a static analysis is ok, but for a modal analysis just the mode shapes of the Beam188 elements are plotted. The Shell elements remain stiff, although the results are wright.

Regards
Alex
