Agtek Sitework 98 Activation

Agtek Sitework 98 Activation

(OP)
Our company purchased the assets of a bankrupt earthwork sub who used Agtek Sitework 98. I have the software disks (Sitework 98, Materials 2000, and Image Presenter) and the green button dongle. The software loads fine but cannot find the activation key. Does anyone know 1. why it's not finding the key or 2. if there is a step I'm missing to make it work? Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Agtek Sitework 98 Activation

Your question is more of a Legal one than an Engineering one.
If the transfer of assets included assignment of intellectual ownership of the Agtek Software, and the Agtek software is transferable, then you should be able to call Agtek and get a replacement Key.

The program won't run without that key.

Why would I need a replacement key? Everything is set up the same as before (including the hardware key on the back). The only difference is I loaded the software onto a new server.

They did not renew support with Agtek (who wants $55 per call to assist). I just thought if someone was familiar with installing Agtek, they could give me a quick fix.

I'll just call Agtek support and pay to money.

RE: Agtek Sitework 98 Activation

You mentioned that you installed the Sitework 98 software on a new server.  If the new server is running Windows XP, your problem is the operating system--not the hardware lock.  Sitework 98 is an old DOS-based program and it is not compatible with Win XP (or NT/2000). Actually, there was a third-party "XP Patch" available for Sitework 98, but I believe AGTEK no longer sells it because it did not work very well.  Your best bet is to run Sitework 98 under Windows 98/Me.
