FEA Theory Course
FEA Theory Course
(OP)
Anyone every taken a course in FEA theory? Not really talking about a university type course, but something that a few of my colleagues and myself could attend for a few days to get some background on what goes on inside the FEA black box. Thanks.

RE: FEA Theory Course
"Finite Element Analysis" by Gallagher
The Second is:
"Finite element Modelin" by Spyrakos.
The first book is a good readable introduction into the basics of FEA and how the elements are developed.
The second book is written around the FEA program ALGOR. It is slightly more basic than the first book.
Both of them are good.
My advice is that you try to get your company to buy FEA software and take the developer's course. Then work with it for several weeks to get familiar with it.

RE: FEA Theory Course
It is good idea to go into the black box to see. But FEA is not really a piece of cake. Actually you can not go deep enough to UNDERSTAND the whole thing. For example, there are some many types of elements good for different tpye of problems.
You can for sure get some idea from a couple of days training. Sometimes a short training may be enough for some simple problems.
