Solidworks Question

Solidworks Question

Solidworks Question

(OP)
I am trying to dimension in solidworks. Is there a way to snap to tangent points. When I try using the smart dimension, it always snaps to center points of arcs and circles. How can I make it snap to tangent or quadrant points. Thanks.

RE: Solidworks Question

What version of SW are you using?

Pre SW2005 does not have the "snap to" quadrant feature.

RE: Solidworks Question

Your subject must be more explicit.
The answer to your question is in the SolidWorks help, under quadrant points.

we have solidworks 2005 SP02. Is there a snap to tangent point? if yes, how would I turn it on. Thank you.

RE: Solidworks Question

Quick snaps doesn't work with dimensions. Hold the shift key when dimensioning, then select the arc where you want the dimension. Remember to hold shift til your done placing the dimension.

RE: Solidworks Question

Ohhh! I didn't even realize he was talking about dimensions I thought he was dragging out a sketch to snap to sketch points.

Unfortunately not when dimensioning in a part sketch. What you could do, is place a Point at the Intersection of the geometry tangent (if it is not at the normal quadrant positions) & then dimension to the point.

RE: Solidworks Question

When placing a dimension on a arc or a circle the dimension defaults to the center of the arc.  If you right click on the dimension and check out the bottom of the dialog box.  You can choose min or max.  Click apply to determine how these choices changes the dimensioning scheme.
